Timothee Verrecchia
Perhaps the simplest way of explaining what Timothee Verrecchia does for a living is to call him a “creative director.” Or maybe “cultural entrepreneur”? Whatever the term is, it better be broad enough to encompass his 15 years of experience in art, fashion, music and media. After co-founding the Smashing Pumpkins-owned Scratchie Records, Verrecchia became a partner in French cultural weekly magazine Les Inrockuptibles, his music pursuits also extending to producing Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited, an album of tribute covers by artists including The Kills, Franz Ferdinand and Marianne Faithfull (a concert at the Hollywood Bowl is set to follow in August 2011). Verrecchia has also curated exhibitions everywhere from Moscow to Los Angeles and collaborated with such luminaries as Hedi Slimane and Xavier Veilhan; is a founding partner of Cafe Gitane at the Jane Hotel and partners in Le Baron New York and Mas Malo in Los Angeles; and co-edits the French fashion quarterly Officiel Hommes. And that’s not even mentioning Verrecchia & Partners, the Paris- and New York-based company he runs with his brother Vassili (which counts Apple, Sony Pictures and Hermès as clients), and his role on the communications committee of non-profit organization Peacefirst.org. When Verrecchia does find some precious free time, he’ll more often than not be found surfing.
