Molteni&C Dada introduces its 2021 "Made in Italy" furniture collection in an enigmatic art film that pays tribute to Venice
Italian design group Molteni&C Dada, leading in the "Made in Italy" furniture market and conceived by prestigious, international designers, announced its 2021 interiors collection with a short movie navigating nostalgia and timeless experiences. Milanese directors Beniamino Barrese and Mattia Colombo drew on their talent for creating exquisite personal profiles and documentary work to create White Noise, the full movie of which can be watched on Molteni&C Dada channels from September 14.
Peruvian actor Valeria Vereau, who debuted in Pedro Almodovar’s Volver, plays Johanna, a woman caught between the present and memories of a returning past. Johanna is a writer at the peak of her career, but on the morning of an awards dinner for her latest novel, she receives a parcel with an Italian postmark. Then everything changes.
“This short film is a courageous and visionary experiment that breaks with the more traditional, product-focused approach to communication typical of our field”
The directors created a nonlinear narrative that pulls the audience between Johanna’s capacious Brooklyn apartment and flashbacks of Venice, the birthplace of Carlo Scarpa, Italy’s grandmaster of architecture who inspired this year’s Molteni&C Dada contemporary collection.
"This short film is a courageous and visionary experiment that breaks with the more traditional, product-focused approach to communication typical of our field," says Giulia Molteni, Molteni Group Head of Marketing and Communication. "But we are convinced that this form of language can connect us deeply with people and succeed in conveying the essence of our brand through an emotional journey.’’
White Noise, which was produced by Muse Factory of Dreams, is a divine and experiential homage to the eternal city, which is embodied by the Palazzo Querini Stampalia—delicately renovated by Scarpa during the Fifties—that forms the backdrop of Joanna’s memories. The nineteenth-century palazzo is etched from Istrian stone and highlights traditional Venetian architectural elements; water, a portego, a lithe bridge, and gardens.
The red stucco and polychrome marble of the Querini Stampalia is thrown into relief by the interplay of rigid forms and soft lines in the Molteni&C Dada 2021 collection, elements of which—designed by Vincent Van Duysen, Giò Ponti, Nicola Gallizia, and Pierre Frey—melt harmoniously into the set’s elegant decor. A match made in architectural heaven.
