The Botanist
A master of survival talks flora and fauna in rural Tajikistan
Directors Maude Plante-Husaruk and Maxime Lacoste-Lebuis met expert botanist Raïmberdi while travelling in Central Asia. His reflections on the nomadic life, and on practices that are rooted in an ancient rural lifestyle, offer a fascinating personal record of the region's history, and the extreme hardships its population experienced after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
“Raïmberdi talked about the importance of ancestral practices, of self sufficiency, and the flora and fauna on which he is almost entirely dependent”
Speaking of their fascinating protagonist, the directorial duo explain: “When we completed the film, and travelled to Tajikistan to screen it for him, Raïmberdi talked to students about the importance of ancestral practices, of self sufficiency, and about the flora and fauna on which he is almost entirely dependent. We were inspired to see him inspiring a young generation to face the challenges of a rapidly changing world.”

Lovely film - well done team. Wonderful insight into a faraway place. Sad that someone with so much to offer cannot impart his knowledge more widely.
