SISTERS
A cinematic reflection on childhood and the poetry of simple moments shared amongst family
Director Luke Jaden honors the flickering memories of childhood and the deep connection between siblings in short film SISTERS. Taking the form of a visual poem, the film attempts to relive nostalgic moments that find new significance in retrospect – once we break away from childlike boredom and the slow passage of time that comes with it.
“I liked this idea of a serene place and feeling at ease with so much peace that you ceaselessly fall into a daydream. I was thinking about the shared connection between my two daughters: a universal language shared that’s not spoken, yet poetic through silence, or the way they look at each other.”
Shooting on 16mm & 35mm Kodak film against the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Jaden captures his own family in a state of shared escapism, depicting the poetry of simple moments among this grounding influence. As a snapshot of a moment lost in time, with the visceral complexities of a psychological landscape, SISTERS mirrors the immense feeling held within a painting, exploring how nature can give way to emotion, and channel the thoughts that swirl within us in our formative years.
