Director Mike Figgis may have Academy Award nominations to his name for Leaving Las Vegas, but the Englishman, born in Carlisle, Cumberland, is not what you would call “traditional Hollywood,” preferring to expand his work across composing, filmmaking and writing. Currently juggling his time between two scripts as well as a series of short films about women living in various capitals around the world, Figgis’s next book, The Dramatic 36 Situations For Film, will be published by Faber in 2015.
