Ramdane Touhami
If you ever have the pleasure of being seated next to Ramdane Touhami at a dinner party, be sure to ask what he does for a living. Then sit back and get comfortable—it’s going to be a long ride. The short answer, that he is an art director and entrepreneur, doesn’t do justice to the 36-year-old bon vivant’s astonishing range of experience as a designer, shop owner, curator, writer and editor, perfumier, CEO, filmmaker, restaurateur, gallerist, publisher… Some of Touhami’s most notable projects have included launching the first French skatewear brand, King Size, in 1994; founding La Parfumerie Generale with his wife Victoire de Taillac; revamping the men’s department of Liberty of London; and, more recently, taking the reins at Cire Trudon, the venerated candle factory founded in 1643 that, under Touhami’s direction, has flourished into a brand with outlets in 54 countries. He also designs two men’s collections, the elegant RT and the politically inspired streetwear line Resistance. As well as recently opening a Cire Trudon store in New York (the first outside of paris), Touhami is making plans for a new restaurant (also in NYC), and will launch his new shoe collection, Croquenot, in 2011.
