Sam McKnight is generally credited as being the original “session hairstylist,” a go-to man for editors and photographers looking to assemble a beauty squadron of exceptional talent. For the past three decades he has styled innumerable magazine covers, runway shows and celebrity appearances, working with photographers including Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber and Irving Penn, and brands such as Prada, Chloé and Gucci. Among his many accomplishments, McKnight styled Cate Blanchett’s hair the night she won the Oscar; famously cropped and bleached the then unknown Agyness Deyn’s shoulder-length mop; and traveled around the world with Lady Di as her personal groomer. Beyond salon hairstyling, McKnight’s frequent collaborations with beauty colleagues such as Mary Greenwell and Laura Mercier have helped establish many an image; you can spot his handiwork on cultural icons ranging from Madonna to Lady Gaga. In 2008, McKnight won the Lifetime Achievement honors at the Scottish Fashion Awards. He currently serves as the Global Ambassador for Pantene. View additional work credits on MyFDB.
