After graduating from the Tisch film program in 1999, Philip Andelman made haste to the West Coast, where he began working as a cinematographer and director on music videos. In 2004, he teamed up with the acclaimed production company Partizan, directing videos for artists such as Beyoncé, The Gossip and Scissor Sisters, and piling up a mantel’s worth of awards, including MVPA Director of the Year honors in 2007. Andelman has a parallel career in still photography, and has worked with Annie Leibovitz and Mark Seliger, as well as documenting The Grateful Dead’s final year of touring. More recently, Andelman has followed musical subjects, including Jay-Z and Beck, producing scrapbook-like chronicles of life on and off the road. In May 2010, Andelman showed photographs of the Beastie Boys and Dead Weather, shot over three days in Paris, at the Milk Gallery in New York. He has just shot a new Levi's campaign, and is currently working on a “secret” project for his favorite band, the virtuosic rock group Phish. View additional work credits on MyFDB.
