Growing up in Calgary, Imran Amed was about as far from the nexus of the fashion world as it’s possible to be––but that didn’t stop him from developing an early fascination with the industry. After studying at McGill and Harvard Business School, Amed inched closer to his true passion by taking a job at the consulting firm McKinsey. Sensing a shift in the digital landscape and a gap in the fashion market, in 2007 the entrepreneur left his job and launched The Business of Fashion (BoF), a blog that provides trade news and analysis; it now draws more than 20,00 visitors a day. As a business adviser with his company Amed & Co., he works with international luxury brands, private equity firms and high-potential startups to connect and shape strategies for the industry’s top creative and business talent. In 2011, Amed was voted one of the 100 most influential men in Britain by GQ UK. In addition to sitting on the Digital Committee of the British Fashion Council, and the Board of Dasra, a philanthropic foundation based in India, Amed is an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins.
