An Illustrated Inquiry into the Springtime Celebration’s Hot Topics
Designer Stephen Wildish analyzes the myth of the Easter Bunny and the semiotics of “spring” in this series of seasonally themed info-graphics. Whether one has forgone junk food, cigarettes, social media or pornography for Lent, the springtime holiday presents a welcome excuse to indulge. Beyond the US tradition of hunting for chocolate eggs in the backyard, more idiosyncratic past-times include Bulgarian egg-cracking competitions and the racy Slovakian custom of dousing women with cold water and spanking them, ostensibly to bring health and wealth. Wildish began making pop flow charts during downtime at a graphic design firm and posts regularly on his eponymous blog where the diverse topics include everything from James Bond to rude bird names. With Green & Black’s organic butterscotch egg as his personal favorite Easter treat, Wildish plotted the “poshness” to cocoa content of leading chocolate brands to help us decide what to gorge ourselves on, while the hot cross bun conundrum was inspired by his children singing the popular nursery rhyme about the spicy pastries.
