Elle Fanning: Rodarte's Muse

The Actress Strikes Fashion Gold in Todd Cole’s The Curve of Forgotten Things

Hollywood’s latest darling, Elle Fanning, goes digging for buried treasure in Todd Cole's new collaboration with Rodarte, The Curve of Forgotten Things, premiering exclusively on NOWNESS today. The film highlights design duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy's spring 2011 collection, which drew inspiration from 1970s northern California, referencing Redwood forests, the gold rush and Asian influences. The Somewhere star pirouettes through the empty rooms of the historic Baldwin House (which sits on an oil field in LA's Baldwin Hills), her outfits magically changing from one room to the next. Shot on a RED camera using Cooke lenses from the 70s, the short's dusty focus references seminal movies of that era, such as Terrence Malick’s Badlands, while Georgia-based indie rockers Deerhunter provide the dreamy soundtrack. As for the title, Cole explains: “It's the title of a Richard Brautigan poem. The poem and the film are about forgotten things—circles and the curve of time.” The film follows on from last spring's intergalactic project that Cole shot with Rodarte and comes at an extraordinary moment for the designers, whose dazzling costume contributions to Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan will form part of their upcoming solo exhibit at MoCA. so charmingly clumsy and out of place, I absolutely LOVE.

High Heels... Golden Leather Miniskirt... on Elle Fanning, a child? Sorry Rodart - thats totally disgusting!

Of course a twelve year old is too young to model clothes as mature as these. But does she have the figure and would any other model be less interesting? Yes ..she's a fresh new starlet! It was boring, yes, but the video was did its job, visually. It was as satisfying as a honey straw. It was simple, golden; it was a facet of a dream.

Whats the plot? Something to do with Solaris? Only mom could pay the clothes and shoes.

Loved the clothes, loved the girl, loved the film, hated the shoes. They even make a 12 year old's ankles look fat.

I didn't know she was 12 years old the first time I saw this video... Even when I do agree that she´s way too young for the clothes I don´t think it looked wrong on her... I mean the video talks about the time (past time, future, maybe age being young, old)... I think her youth combined with some older ladies clothes like Rodarte´s was part of the point of the story ... And the most important thing the clothes weren´t against her short age, (in the way that they are not sexy or exposed her in some inappropriate way)... So I think the video is really beautiful

it seems very unsavory and unsetteling the mulleavy's obsession with these very young blond girls.just an observation in my opinion.first tavi the blogger who maybe too old for their liking now, in my opinion they maybe to insecure to seek others their own age.there are hotlines and clinics that maybe able to help these two to a healthier lifestyle.the parents of these young girls should be very careful.I dont appreciate fashion masking a very dark obsession.

no little girl should be wearing heels like that. i loathe the mulleavy sisters but i guess at least their muse this time is someone alive rather than murdered mexican girls for a change.

I felt the clothes were the weakest link in an otherwise robust chain. Sensitive cinematography, sympathetic colours, intriguing locations, good soundtrack. And an actress that seems to be brimming with potential. Those slightly self-conscious smiles to herself in the mirror really captured the essence of this movie so poignantly. Or did I simply miss the point of this film. That Rodarte clothes are meant to occupy the background.

Elle Fanning is 12 years old. These clothes are completely inappropriate for her. They look wrong, a 12 year old does not have a woman's body. If the premise is 'dressing up' then this has missed the mark by a long shot, What are Kate & Laura Mulleavy thinking having her model their clothes. This is pretentious tosh.

This was rad. The ambient music provided by Deerhunter was perfect.

la vidéo est très belle tout comme les vêtements Rodarte...
