Au Revoir Simone: Remixed

The Brooklyn Trio Meet Angel Deradoorian in "Only You Can Make You Happy"

With their girlish charm, flowing locks and vintage-chic stylings, casio-crazy trio Au Revoir Simone are like an indie-pop answer to Charlie’s Angels. Granted, Erika Forster, Annie Hart and Heather D’Angelo aren’t trigger-happy and crime-obsessed, but in the years since the release of their debut, Verses of Comfort, Assurance and Salvation (2005), they’ve proven their status as an intrepid threesome with a marked taste for unorthodox adventures (including impromptu performances on the streets of Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, and in the back of a black cab—impressive feats for an all-keyboard band). The band is currently on tour promoting its latest LP, the much trumpeted cool-pop wonder Still Night, Still Light (the lead single from which, “Shadows,” was premiered by longtime ARS fan David Lynch on his foundation’s website last year). But the very latest offering from the Au Revoir Simone camp is a remix album entitled Night Light—out this week from Moshi Moshi records. “I think, for some reason, our music really lends itself to remixes,” says Erika Forster. “But it’s not necessarily about making a dance song or a hit.” The band have worked with an impressive list of off-kilter blog favorites on the remixes, from blissed-out synth wizards Neon Indian to folksy songwriter Jens Lekman to Dirty Projectors bassist Angel Deradoorian, who provided today’s remix of “Only You Can Make You Happy.” “Angel is really amazing,” says Forster. “We met at a party and just talked for hours about tarot reading.”
