While watching the video for Portland band AU’s new single, “Ida Walked Away,” you might pine for your sunglasses. Director Takafumi Tsuchiya’s eye-poppingly bright graphics travel back to the 80s with glittering cascades of patterned triangles and clouds that shiver and shake to the pulsing walking-pace of the video’s faceless protagonist. A heavenly stroll across rainbow roads and rustling green leaves, the video is the perfect backdrop for the melismatic vocals of AU’s multi-instrumentalist frontman Luke Wyland and the group’s transcendental wall-of-sound arrangements. “Ida Walked Away” is taken from AU’s 2009 EP Versions, available now from Aagoo records.
