Lo, Sauvage!

We Quiz the Sharp Gent on Dreaming, Timing and Fancy Footwork

Inspired by Adrien Sauvage’s surreal The Art of DE—we preview an excerpt exclusively today on NOWNESS—we thought we’d appeal to his esoteric side, posing questions based upon André Breton’s surrealist manifesto of 1924, mixed with a bit of Freudian psychoanalysis. Oh, and we also had to ask about his amazing dancing, evident in the full version of the film, which premieres on the A Sauvage site on Monday. Like the designer’s new line of pristine tailored garments, the answers are minimal and to the point.

Your manifesto, in five words.

This Is Not a Suit

To quote Breton: Are you an “inveterate dreamer,” or “living under the reign of logic”?

All creatives are inveterate dreamers. Their success is often dictated by their ability to harness their logic and work within the parameters of feasibility.

Who’s the better dresser: Dalí or Magritte?

I admire Magritte’s classic three-button, grey wool suit in the day, and Dalí's double-breasted tuxedo in the evening.

Who is your doppelgänger?

EGAVUAS NEIRDA.

Do you have a lucky number?

000-1.000-11.

Why is there just one hand on your clock?

The other fell off.

What’s your signature dance move?

Freestyle.

What’s one fashion rule you should always break?

Black and blue.
