Yayoi Kusama: The Mirrored Years

Nicknamed the “Polka Dot Princess” for covering canvases, walls and even her assistants in brightly colored dots, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama was a leading light of New York’s avant garde in the 60s. Her obsession with pattern and repetition—a result of hallucinations she has experienced since childhood—inspires her “infinity nets”, dizzying installations using mirrors, patterns and electric light. City Gallery in Wellington, New Zealand is celebrating its re-opening by hosting The Mirrored Years, a solo exhibition featuring Kusama’s seminal works from the 60s and 70s.
