A History in the Wearing

Thom Browne on 100 Years of Menswear

At the beginning of the 20th century, men were sober, buttoned-up things, recoiling in horror at the excesses of the fops and dandies that had preceded them. In more recent years, however, men have developed a new sartorial vocabulary, thanks to designers such as Thom Browne, who is showing his latest collection of forward-looking tailoring today at New York Fashion Week. To celebrate Thom’s show, and his status as a modern pioneer of men’s clothing, we asked him to pick his top five images from new book 100 Years of Menswear, which is published by Laurence King in September.
