“One of my finest occasions in the dress was rolling down a long flight of stairs at the home of Stephen Webster, the jeweller. I landed unharmed, like a big, black puffball.”

“…the form is as modern and almost as simple as a sleeveless undershirt, but the embellishment links it to Chanel’s passion for luxurious embroideries that she developed during her liaison with Russia’s Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich.”

"It was only the third collection I had done, but the buzz was wild. Kate Moss decided to do the show at the last minute and suddenly we had all the makings of our first cult item, mad color, the print done on a friend’s computer in about half an hour, the design inspired by a pillowcase, with a pleat that sent the whole thing squiffy and lop-sided... What fun.”

London's Fashion Favorites
The British Fashion Awards 2009
Tonight the UK's most respected tastemakers will gather at Somerset house for the British Fashion Awards, a celebration of another year in the world of British fashion design. This year marks not only the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week—which is being celebrated with a special "Spirit of London" award, voted for by the public via the web—but the 20th year of the awards themselves. While we await the results here at NOWNESS we celebrate British talent with a gallery of dresses picked by famous British fashionistas. These images sit next to selections from designers including Francisco Costa, Alber Elbaz and Sonia Rykiel in My Favourite Dress, a new book from Antique Collector's Club, out December 16.
