NOWNESS's New Year Countdown

New Year’s Eve marks a 24-hour session of revelry around the world as countries and continents "usher in the new" in an assortment of ways. From piles of broken crockery in Denmark to fetes, fireworks, and drunken renditions of "Auld Lang Syne" as the ball drops in Times Square, each culture has their own celebratory tradition. For most western countries, tonight is the night to say farewell to the "Noughties", so expect more parties, fleeting affairs and flimsy resolutions than ever before. If you’re not yet in the mood, perhaps this will help—a gallery of images demonstrating just how much the rest of the world will be enjoying themselves as we move into a new decade.
